Ministries to members

Golden Members

Our “golden” members are those of our church who are no longer able to attend services and are generally home-bound. There are currently about fifteen “golden” members of Swansboro United Methodist Church.

SUMC established a team to help these “golden” members continue to be a part of our church community. Team members try to give Christian love to our “golden” members through home visits every 4-6 weeks. The goal of these 20 to 30 (or more) minutes visits is to spend time talking and praying and maybe walking, playing a game or working on a craft project.

Team members are especially happy to acknowledge birthdays and Christmas with small gifts and to send cards throughout the year to let our “golden’s” know we love and remember them.

Team members find this program rewarding for themselves as well as the “golden” members.

Hand Made’ns

Prayer Shawl Ministry graphicOur Hand Made’ns make prayer shawls for anyone regardless of age. Shawls and other items are made during our meetings and at home or anywhere time permits. Yarn and patterns are available for knitting and crocheting. Shawls are made with love and prayers for the recipient’s healing, wellness and wholeness. They are for people going through a difficult time mentally, emotionally, spiritually, or physically. At the end of each meeting, the shawls are blessed. Shawls may be given to anyone.

You are invited to join us at 10:00 a.m. in Bldg 1 on the third Tuesday of each month, September through May.

Contact Charlie Krawchuk to inquire about this ministry or obtaining a shawl.

Martha’s Mission

Martha’s Mission is a group of women who provide or assist circles in providing meals for families and guests before or following funeral and memorial services.  This group also prepares lunches following Advent and Lenten mid-day services and hosts receptions at the direction of the pastors.

Please contact Marcie Briley (910.326.5379) to volunteer or for additional information.
